The Resort at Longboat Key Club is a 410-acre beach-front resort in Sarasota with award-winning tennis facilities, two newly renovated golf courses, a spa and eight on-property restaurants and lounges and a stunning pool area. With a wide variety of resort activities, it’s an especially attractive destination for multi-generation family vacations. Call the grand parents, it’s time for a memorable getaway!
Last month I had a chance to visit for LuxuryTravelMom.com, you can read my full review here, but I wanted to let you know about accessibility and options for families with special needs.
Special Needs and Wheelchair Accessibility at The Resort at Longboat Key Club
Pool Area
There is wheelchair access to the pool area and a portable ADA pool lift to the spa and pool. The pool area is lined with lounge chairs and dining table with umbrella options for shade if desired. Barefoots Bar and Grille offers poolside dining, because you know your kids aren’t going to want to leave the pool for long. There are also cocktails served poolside to keep mama happy.
Beach Accessibility
The beach is gorgeous and relaxing, you could spend all of your time there. Free beach wheelchairs and ramps make beach accessibility easy. The beach is fairly flat with gentle waves. There are covered cabana-style lounge chairs and beach umbrellas available. Paddle boards and water toys are available for day rental. Oh, and they serve cocktails on the beach.
Getting Around
The Resort at Longboat Key Club is huge! The main hotel, restaurant, beach access and pool are all in the same area; you can easily walk or roll around this part of the resort. You will need transportation to get to the marina, tennis, golf, spa and other restaurants. There are ADA-friendly curb cuts, wheelchair ramps and flat walk ways throughout the resort. Bikes are available at no charge to get around as well, some with baby seats on the back. There are also golf cart shuttles available to take you to parts of the property, but if you need wheelchair accessible transportation I would suggest using your own car or bringing your own bike trailer.
Accommodations
I stayed in a Junior Suite. It had a kitchen, dining table, living room area and washer/dryer. The balcony was large, with a patio table and chairs. It would have been perfect for my family of four. Call the resort for your family’s specific needs and they can help find the room that will provide the best stay for your family. I know I always say this, but be sure to know what you need and be specific, most hotels/resorts have a lot of options if you ask. For example, we always ask for a bench in the shower.
Kids Camps
Camp Loggerhead has lots of fun activities for kids between 5 and 12 years of age. Their Friday Fun Night camp will give you a fun evening out of your own. To find out more about how Camp Loggerhead can work for your child with special needs, give the director a call and discuss your child’s needs 941.387.1614. They can also give you some child care referrals.
So, who’s ready for a beach vacation?
