Hop the Bainbridge Island ferry from the Seattle waterfront, and after a scenic 35-minute ride you’ll find yourself in Winslow, a little town with friendly people, great shops and wonderful restaurants.
Whenever friends come to town I recommend taking a walk-on ferry ride to Winslow day trip; it’s quintessential Pacific Northwest. The iconic ferry ride fills the senses with beautiful views and fresh air, leading to a cute town that features a great food and beverage scene, and upscale boutique shopping. Walking on (instead of taking your car) makes the pace relaxed, with no ferry lines to wait in and no parking to hunt down. The ferry landing is just a couple of blocks from the main street – where you’ll find most of the shopping and restaurants.
Wheelchair Accessibility in Winslow
The walk from the ferry landing to town is up hill, just something to know if you are pushing a wheelchair. It’s not bad, but it’s there. Most of the shops and restaurants are surprisingly accessible. With a few exceptions, the majority have level thresholds and plenty of space to get around with a wheelchair. The sidewalks have nice curbcuts and there’s lots of handicap parking on the street if you do drive your car.
Where to Eat in Winslow, Bainbridge Island
There are a lot of great places to eat in Winslow, I’ll just cover a few. One of my favorite places to eat if I’m visiting Winslow without kids is the Harbour Public House. With beautiful water views and locally sourced pub food and drink, it’s a relaxing treat. This last visit we had lunch at the Fork and Spoon, featuring unique sandwich combinations made with fresh baked breads, soups and salads – including fresh gluten-free options. We sat outside on the patio and soaked in the sun. Delightful. Town and Country Market may just be a grocery store, but they have awesome espresso and fresh baked goods – and they’re so friendly! Stop by D’Ambrosio Gelato for a yummy shopping break, and don’t forget to pick up some fresh made fudge or another delicious confection at Bon Bon for the ferry ride back to Seattle.
